Good morning! I’m camping in the Adirondack Mountains this week with no electricity or phone service … let’s hope I scheduled this email correctly.
Before we get into the good stuff, I just wanted to say THANK YOU. In less than 48 hours I had 40 email subscribers, and it continues to grow.

I love libraries.
The books. The learning. The movement to crafting, podcasting and 3D printing?
Most importantly (…for this email, anyway), I love the digital resources for work.
Last week, I wanted to see if a newspaper article featuring one of my businesses was in print or just online.
Unfortunately, being in Ohio when the business featured was in Texas, made it *slightly* impossible to do the triumphant run to the store for a copy and dramatically squeal as I opened it.
Ok…the library can’t help with the dramatics, but, I was able to see the full article in print — AND make sure that I wasn’t cheating the system (aka, making sure reporters are still getting paid for their work) through Press Reader, an all-you-can-read digital newsstand.
Press Reader is just one of the free tools that allows me to see print versions of newspapers across the country with my library card. I can also view print magazines to get ideas columns I should be pitching for clients through Flipster.
Side bar: if you’ve never spent a work day at the library or book store just flipping through magazines to see the regular columns of print mags … you’re missing out.
Obviously, not all libraries have the same resources available — but that doesn’t mean you won’t find what you’re looking for!
As a member of three local library systems, I get Press Reader and Flipster through one, and Newspaper Source through another card, which, similar to Press Reader, includes newspaper text, but also has a bonus of transcripts from CNN and CBS news shows too (tv show guest research anyone?).
What digital resources does your library have?
Where/who did you learn media relations from?
Click the link to your answer. I’ll share results next week.
